Garrett has invented both the traffic light and the gas mask.
Inventions
Garrett has invented the traffic light in 1923. He also invented the gas mask in 1915 and the hair straightener in 1912. The gas mask and traffic light can keep you safe in life. The traffic light tells people when to stop, slow down, and go. The gas mask can protect your lungs from any harmful gas. The hair straightener can make heat which straightens your hair and it feels like a clothes iron.
Lifetime
Garrett Morgan was born on March 4, 1877. He lived in Paris, Kentucky. He was part of a growing family. He was the 7th of 11 children. His father was Sydney Morgan, who was a former slave freed in 1863. His mother was Elizabeth Reed Morgan. Garrett left home at age 14, going to Cleveland. He only had elementary school education. Even though, he was naturally smart, sharp, and confident. Morgan had a liking for gadgets and mechanics. He found out how to repair stuff like sewing machines and worked for a lot of companies in Cleveland. His best life moment was when he saved people using his own invention, the gas mask
